Apple prodding map providers for map data fixes

Bloomberg: Apple Fired Maps Manager via Daring Fireball

[Eddy] Cue, who took over last month as part of a management shakeup, is seeking advice from outside mapping-technology experts and prodding digital maps provider TomTom NV (TOM2) to fix landmark and navigation data it shares with Apple.

Shouldn't really be a matter of prodding the providers for fixes, well I'm of course not familiar with every country in the world and thus can't compare maps everywhere but from what I've seen here in Sweden the issue isn't so much that the data provided by the third party sources Apple is using is incorrect, the problem is that data is missing.

In Apple maps the road outside my house does not have a name (but the road itself is on the map) and a search for the general area or my address will give no results. The thing is, I happen to have a at least five year old GPS unit made by TomTom and despite that fact that I haven't its maps it still knows the name of my road and can find my address.
